

John was predeceased by his wife Christine Flanagan and his grandson Liam Hughes. He is survived by five children Sean Flanagan, Kara Ryan, Jennifer Flanagan, Maureen Hughes and Daniel Flanagan. In addition, he is survived by his daughters-in-law Vanessa and Danette Flanagan and two sons-in-law Joseph Hughes and John Ryan. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Emma, Kaeleigh, Christine, John and Alba. Additionally, his three sisters Kathleen Moran, Maureen Flanagan, Patricia Murray and brother William Flanagan who predeceased him. As well as, his loving companion Grace Van Ausdall.
John graduated from Manhattan College and St. John’s Law School. He was the proprietor of Mamie O’Rourkes in downtown Manhattan during the 1970’s and early 80’s. As well as, Malachy’s Irish Pub on West 72nd and Columbus Ave., which he co-owned with his late wife and brother .
John had a love for travel, cars, reading, music and the NY Mets and Jets. He was quick witted, generous in nature and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
A wake will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY from 4:00– 8:00 pm. A Catholic funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY on Friday January 12, 2024 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
