
John F. Murray passed away on September 25, 2010. He was 81 years old. John was born on January 25, 1929 in Bronx, NY to James and Hnora (Keane) Murray. From the Bronx, John moved up to New City and lived here since 1969. He served with the US Army in the Korean War. He was with the NYPD for 37 years and retired in 1989 as a Sergeant from the 44th precinct. John was a director of the Sergeants Benevolent Association in the Bronx. He belonged to the 44 Forever Club, Rockland County Shields Club, and the 10-13 Club. John is survived by his wife, Mary Redmond Murray; his two sons Tom and his wife Vicki Murray of Cornwall, NY, and Kevin and his wife Gwen Murray of Myrtle Beach, SC; his daughters Dale McKenna of Suffern, NY, Ginny and her husband Artie Econom of Pinebush, NY, and Kathy Murray and Alberto Aramendia of New City, NY; his two stepsons William and his wife Therese Redmond of Scituate, MA, and Pierce and Catherine Redmond of Bardonia, NY; his stepdaughter Kathleen and her husband Matt Torgersen of Chester, NJ; his 22 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and 30 nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his first wife, Joan Hyland Murray in 1995. John was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle whose greatest joy came from his family. Viewing will be held on Monday, September 27 from 7-9 PM, and Tuesday September 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 29 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY at 10:15 AM followed by a burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
