Linda was born on December 7, 1946, to Dominick and Frances Salvo of Brooklyn, New York.
Linda graduated from Lafayette High School, Brooklyn, NY in 1965 and began working in Manhattan as a bank teller. She enjoyed reminiscing about the many adventures that Phylis, Joyce and Angela shared with her including their "fleet week" shenanigans and a rather adventurous vacation in Puerto Rico! Linda loved to travel with friends! Throughout her life, it was her trips to Brooklyn and out to the Island to see her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins nephew and nieces that made her feel most at home.
In 1969, Linda was introduced to Lawrence Guertin by Phylis Hochberg and immediately fell in love with this "tough guy" that had a heart of gold.
They were married in St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY on October 18th, 1970. Linda and Larry went on to have three daughters, Kimbelry, Debra, and Karen.
Linda found her life's purpose in serving her family, but missed the freedom and socialization that came from working as a bank teller before meeting Larry. As soon as the kids were all in school, she got a part time job as a food service worker for the Clarkstown School District. The hours allowed her to be home for her family, and she was very happy. As the kids got older, she obtained a position working for the Bank of New York as a teller. Bernie, Mel, Dorothy and the girls became family. She finished her career with Chase Bank, and stepped into her new full time role as Nana.
Linda's six grandsons were the light of her life and feeding, hugging, and spoiling them gave her immeasurable joy! She was delighted to have Gianna and Becca as her honorary granddaughters.
As Linda's health deteriorated she relished fine dining and Broadway musicals with Wanda, Jill, Erika, and Christa, swimming at Lake Nanuet with Carol and Leo, playing Bingo and Singing Karaoke with Aileen and her Friedwald Family of caregivers.
Linda is predeceased by her parents, Dominick and Frances Salvo.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Lawrence Nicholas Guertin, her daughter's Kimberly McCarthy, Debra DiTuri, and Karen Smith; her six grandsons: Kian, Devereaux, DJ, and Dominick McCarthy; Nicholas and Lorenzo DiTuri; her son in law, Gary Smith, brother, Dennis Salvo, her Brother in Law Frank Guertin, and her more-like-a-sister than Sister in Law, Carol Berthiaume.
Linda will always be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all those who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City, New York, on Monday, October 21st from 4-8pm.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Lynbrook, New York on Monday, October 28th at 9:45am, with burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Although she did not have Alzheimer's, she wanted nothing more than a cure for her husband, Lawrence.
