
Peggy Maas, 83, formerly of New City, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 18, 2010 in Naples Florida. Born in New York City on October 26, 1927 to the late John and Catherine (Travers) McGahern, Peggy married the late Lou Maas in 1947 and had eight children. After moving to New City in 1960, Peggy worked for the County of Rockland for twentyone years and retired from her position as Supervisor of Medical Records in 1991. She served as CSEA President and Political Action Chair for Local 844. During her years in Rockland, she worked tirelessly on behalf of many local Democratic candidates. She was active in local politics and many causes, and as an avid reader herself, volunteered, teaching adults to read through the Finkelstein Memorial Library. She moved to Naples Florida in 1996, and continued her volunteerism as a Reading Coach at her local elementary school. She still found time for her many hobbies, including bridge and sewing for her largeextended family. She is survived by her children, Nancy (John) Ferrato of Pearl River; Dennis Maas of Nanuet; Peggy (Bill) Confrey of Pearl River; Kate (Al) Zichella of Naples, Florida; John (Janet) Maas of Bonita Springs, Florida; Susan (Bob) Lyon of Sarasota, Florida; James (Dawn) Maas of New City and Mary Ellen Maas of Naples, Florida. She will also be greatly missed by her two surviving sisters, Kathleen Larkin of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania and Pat (Donald) Recchia of Kent, New York; fourteen grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, a sister, Rosalie Beaury and her grandson, William Hazlett. Visiting will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 11 AM at St. Augustine's Church, New City, NY.
