Mary Theresa Carey

Mary Theresa Carey (Marie) of New City, NY passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2012. She was 81 years old. Marie was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 29, 1931 to Mary Dolan Meehan and John Meehan. Marie was a resident of New City for the past twelve years prior to that Monroe, NY for four years and Bardonia for over 40 years. Marie graduated in 1948 from Cathedral High School, NY, NY. She married the love of her life William (Bill) Carey November 7, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Parish, Bronx, NY. She was an avid reader, gardener and enjoyed discussing politics. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her five grandchildren, Carey, Katie, John, Tara and Anna. Marie worked in the library at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia for over twenty years.

Marie is predeceased by her husband Bill Carey, a former Clarkstown Town Councilman. She is survived by her children, Billy of Stony Point, NY, Kappy (Tommy) of Monroe, NY, Bernadette (Randy) of Charlotte, NC, Jeannine (Guy) of New City, NY and Cris (Maureen) of Bardonia, NY. Her son Cris is currently a member of the Rockland County Legislature. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Carey (Eric) of Arlington, VA, Katie and John of Charlotte, NC, and Tara and Anna of Bardonia, NY.

In addition to her parents Mary and John Meehan, Marie is predeceased by sisters Nancy Meehan and Elizabeth Cregg and brothers John Meehan and Thomas Meehan. She is survived by her sister Alice Loughran and many loving family members.

Funeral services will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 So. Main St., New City, NY on Wednesday, August 22 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday morning, August 23, 10:15 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi R.C.Church, 128 Parrott Road, West Nyack, NY. Burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Rockland Lake, NY. The family requests donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi, West Nyack, NY.
