
Mary Ann Kearns, a Congers resident, passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 72. After working as a teacher's aide at P.S. 8 in the Bronx, she spent the latter half of her career at the Rockland County Department of Health and happily retired in 2003. She had a lust for life and an adventurous spirit. Mary traveled extensively throughout her life, both prior to and during her retirement. She was the heart and soul of the family, opening her home to all and hosting many gatherings over the years. She was born on August 30, 1938 in the Bronx to Paul and Anna Vacula. She married Dwight Kearns on November 30, 1963 and they spent 47 loving, fun years together. In addition to her husband and mother, Mary is survived by her two daughters, Leslie Kearns and Alison Ledden, both of Jackson Heights, NY. She is also survived by her loving sister, Doris Fisher of West Nyack. Visiting is scheduled for Wednesday November 17 from 7-9 PM and Thursday, November 18 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. A service will be held on Friday, November 18 at 11 AM at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery at Rockland Lake in Congers, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
