Mary K. Mullen

March 16, 1929 – October 30, 2020

Mary Kathleen Mullen (nee O’Brien) of Nanuet, NY passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of her family at her home on October 30, 2020. Mary was born in Buckhill, Fairymount, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, Ireland on March 16, 1929 to Bridget and Thomas O’Brien. She was a sister to her beloved brother John and sister-in-law Eileen.

She is survived by her children, Mary & husband Peter, Kathleen, Thomas & wife Deirdre, Patrick & wife Stephanie and Anne & husband Michael, her grandchildren, John, Peter, Bridget, Olivia, Patrick, Fiona, Matilda, Anthony, Charlie, Catherine and Julia, and great-granddaughters Maureen, Teagan and Blair.

Mary married her husband of 60 years, Patrick J. Mullen of Cloonfad, Co. Roscommon, on April 11, 1959. Together, they raised their five children in Middle Village, Queens, NY. They were parishioners of Resurrection Ascension Church in Rego Park, NY from 1959 until 2006, when they moved to Rockland County to be near their children.

Mary immigrated to the United States in 1948. She worked at Schraffts Restaurant until 1959. After her children became school aged, she entered the workforce with several of her neighborhood friends and worked at Dry Harbor Nursing Home in Rego Park, NY for fifteen years.

From her birth to her death, Mary nourished people with kindness, love, patience, and faith. She had a tremendous love for traditional Irish music; a love that was passed down to her children and grandchildren. She so cherished her extended family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her many friends in Ireland and the USA.

She was a woman of strong faith who believed in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love, and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. Her family and friends will sorely miss her.

Family will receive guests on Sunday, 11/1 form 3-7PM, at Michael J Higgins Funeral Home 321 S. Main Street, New City, NY 10956. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, 11/2 at 10AM, Saint Anthony’s Church, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY 10954.
