Michael J. Tierney

Michael J. Tierney of Nanuet, NY, 89 years old passed away surrounded by his family on August 11, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, veteran and proud Irishman. He left behind a legacy of warmth, dedication and faith. He is survived by his wife, June Ferreira for the past 66 years, 4 children, Michael (Kathy), Erin Bordas (Ed), Carol Toto (Frank), Sean (Deidre) ,10 grandchildren (Kristi, Eddie, Caity, Nicole, Melissa, Kevin, Frank, Dylan, Brendan, Lexi) 7 great grandchildren (Michael, Hailee, Layah, Anthony, Gia, Izzy and Lucy). 2 sisters Eithne Brennan and Eileen McGrory. He was predeceased by his brother, Jim.

Mike was born in Dublin, Ireland to Eileen and Jim Tierney on October 26, 1935. He married the love of his life, June Ferreira, on January 10, 1959. He proudly served in the US Army from 1954 1956. After his service, he built a lifelong career as a hardworking and respected foreman and mechanic with the Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Authority (MABSTOA). After 30 long years, he then retired and continued working as an engineering foreman at Unilever in Englewood Cliffs, NJ.

Mike’s legacy is one of hard work, service, laughter and love- a life well lived and deeply cherished. May his stories and strength live on in all who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., located at 321 South Main Street, New City, NY, 10956, on August 15, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

A funeral mass will take place at St. Anthony's Church, 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY, 10954, on August 16, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
