
Ricardo Andrew McKay ESQ. “Ric” of New City, NY, 77 yrs old, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2022. Ric was born in Rutland, VT on February 13, 1944 to Patricia and Capt. T. Douglas McKay. He was raised in Blauvelt, NY by his mother and stepfather Robert Dupee with his older brother Joseph McKay, and younger siblings Robert, Chris, Cathy, and MaryPat Dupee. Ric found the love of his life, and best friend, Ellen (nee Ambrose) while attending Albertus Magnus High School (‘63), they married on September 7, 1968.
Ric was educated at Boston College- class of 1967, and obtained a Doctorate of Law Degree from Fordham Law School, class of 1971. He and Ellen settled in New City NY, where they made their lifelong home and raised their three children. Ric had a fruitful 30+ year law career, pre-retiring as the legal counsel for the Rockland County Legislator. He was well known throughout the community and at his church, where he was a religious educator, CYO basketball coach/monitor, lector and usher. He was a lover of movies and chocolate, avid golfer, boisterous sports fan, and collector of many photos. He truly loved spending time “making memories” and vacationing with his family and grandchildren.
Ric is survived by his three children: Jennifer and her husband Michael Mulligan, Kevin and his wife Barbara, and John and his wife Ellen, as well as his seven grandchildren: Alexandria Mulligan, Kaitlyn and Molly McKay, and Korrina, Lily, Sean and Liam McKay, in addition to his many siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws. He is proceeded by his lovely wife Ellen McKay. Ric will always be remembered as a man who offered sound counsel, an unconditionally loving heart and for being the loudest most infectious laugh in the room. He always remembered your face, but rarely remembered your name. His heart was kind and compassionate as he functioned and fought for justice with great integrity. He will be fiercely missed by those who knew and loved him, and all are better for having done so.
A wake will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral home in New City NY from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Catholic Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi 11:00 am Friday January 14, 2022, with a burial to follow at St. Anthony Parish in Nanuet NY.
In lieu of flowers- donations in Ricardo’s name will be graciously accepted by Big Brothers-Big Sisters Organization of America at www.bbbs.org.
