

Richard Domenick Furfaro, 82 years young of Cody, Wyoming, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 3, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra, three Sons, John, Tim and Joseph, daughter, Nicole and ten grandchildren, Kraemer, Baylea, Braydon, Nicolas, Mitchell, Thomas, Ryan, Owen, Emily, and Pierce. He cherished his time spent with family and considered it the most important and precious moments in life.
Richard was born in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Rose Furfaro on June 25, 1942, and grew up spending the first half of his life in Rockland, New York and Bergen, New Jersey counties before moving to San Diego County for a couple of decades. His father, Joseph, passed away when he was 16 years old. Richard honored his father’s advice by attending college at night while working full-time to help support his family. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He owned and operated his own construction company designing and building residential homes for over 50 years mostly in New York and New Jersey. Richard had many accomplishments throughout his life, including being a fourth degree in Knights of Columbus and serving as a Councilman in the City of Allendale, New Jersey. Richard was most enthusiastic about influencing and providing leadership to children and young adults through coaching over the decades through youth sports in the Borough of Allendale and high school football at Cathedral Catholic High School in California and Cody High School in Wyoming. Many simply knew him and respected him as “Coach.”
Most of all, Richard was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a family man, a community leader, a coach, and a mentor with unwavering strength that always had advice and an opinion intended to improve lives. He had a variety of interests and hobbies including, hunting, boating, RV’ing, traveling the world, and most recently playing Texas hold’em poker tournaments at every opportunity. He participated in World Series of Poker events in Las Vegas, Nevada, and elsewhere with many successful results including winning a ring in a Run Good Poker Series event.
A visitation for Richard will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 S Main St, New City, New York 10956. A funeral mass will occur Monday, November 18, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi, 128 Parrott Rd., West Nyack, NY 10994. A burial will occur Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11:15 AM at St. Anthony Cemetery, 36 West Nyack Rd., Nanuet, NY 10954.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Richard is asked to consider donating to, or volunteering for, your local youth or high school sports organization in his remembrance.
