Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 3, 1929 she was a student at St Joseph’s in New Windsor, NY and graduated Ladycliff Academy in Highland Falls, NY. Upon graduation she moved to Brooklyn and began her working life. Working for IBM at “590 Madison” was a source of pride, she worked at there until 1963 when she moved her family to New City, NY.
After raising her children, she began her defining role, receptionist at the Rockland County District Attorney’s office, proudly serving under 3 different administrations for 28 years. She loved “her lawyers, judges and detectives.” Offered “early retirement” at the ripe old age of 80, she decided time it was time to rest. That lasted a year when she began volunteering at People To People, Rockland County’s largest food pantry. She worked part time until age 94, she enjoyed and was proud of every minute of it.
Her Monday meetings of New City III Seniors were a highlight of her week. She loved watching any sporting event, but most particularly the New York Yankees. She enjoyed traveling, Greece, Italy, London and Alaska were particular favorites. She loved a good cocktail, dinners out, penny slots and live entertainment, particularly Broadway shows.
She is survived her daughter Donna McCabe, Son Frank and his wife Kathleen. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Kayla, Emma, Frankie and Jessica. Her nephews and their wives, Richard and Maryann Biscotti and Giacomo and Holly Biscotti were a source of joy, as were her many cousins and extended families. She is also survived by her best friend of 66 years, Sarah Mallon, a fellow IBMer. She is predeceased by her parents Richard and Rose Sellers, her sisters Mary Alice and Peggy, and her brothers John Joseph and Philip.
Rose must be remembered for her generosity, kindness and loving nature. She never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. Her sense of humor, imitations and her “live life to the fullest every day” mantra will be greatly missed.
A viewing for friends and family will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Monday, March 30th, from 3 pm to 8 pm.
