Ruth Donovan

Ruth Donovan of New City, NY passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in her home at the age of 97. Ruth was raised in the Bronx, attending church and school at Blessed Sacrament. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II, along with her Mom (Mary), Dad (Daniel) and brothers Joe, Bill, and Rich.

She was introduced to her husband Charles by her brother Joe, at a “Welcome Back Veterans” dance at St. Helena. They moved from the Bronx to New City in 1956, where she resided for 68 years in the same house until her death. They were married for 44 years until Charles’ passing in 1993. They shared so many wonderful memories over the years with friends and family, in particular, Friday night dinners and holiday parties at the American Legion in New City. Ruth and Charlie were so grateful for their many amazing neighbors and friends in New City.

Mom loved her family and was the happiest when they were around. She could often be found baking in her kitchen to ensure there were always sweet goodies around for family and visitors. Mom is also well remembered for countless hours crocheting hats, scarves, sweaters, and warm afghan blankets for her loved ones.

Ruth was pre-deceased by her parents Mary and Daniel, and brothers Joe and Bill. Ruth is survived by her children Charles, Kenneth (Paula), and Robert, brother Rich, along with her loving grandchildren Kevin, Brian, and Kaitlin.

Mom will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

A visitation for Ruth will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM at St. Augustine's Parish, 140 Maple Ave, New City, NY 10956. A burial will occur Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 11:15 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY 10954.
