
Sidney H. Thompson of Suffern, NY died August 7, 2011 after a long, hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on August 12, 1929, he was a lifelong resident of Rockland County. After he graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1947, Sidney served in the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps in Europe during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Moscarella Post 199 in Spring Valley. He received an accounting degree from the Univ. of Rhode Island, became a CPA and later attended New York Law School. Sidney practiced law in the county for over 50 years, in addition to owning two beverage distributors; Cable Beverages @ 176 Route 304 in Bardonia for 44 years, and Nu Way Beverages in Airmont for 20 years. Sidney is survived by his three children, Lynne Foley & husband Dan of New City, Wayne Thompson & wife Michelle of New City, & Steve Thompson of Airmont; five grandchildren; Claire, Rebecca & Cora Foley and Jake & Ava Thompson; his sister Gloria Harding; sister-in-law Wilma Thompson & many other loving nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley, parents Gwendolyn C. & Herbert A. (Tommy) Thompson, and siblings George, James & Sylvia (Moody). The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 - 8 PM at the Higgins Funeral Home on Main Street in New City. The American Legion Post 199 will hold a service at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hospice of Rockland or the American Legion.
