

Swana was born on April 1, 1951 to parents Michael Piccininni and Gudrun Gestoddir in Reykjavik, Iceland.She moved with her parents and siblings to Queens,New York as a young child where she later graduated from Bayside, High School. After High School, Swana moved to Manhattan and worked at J. Walter Thompson advertising agency at 30 Rockefeller Center. Later she went on to work for the Ambassador of Jordan to the United States. Swana met her first late ex-husband James E. Fleming in NYC and later moved to Congers,New York. Swana and James went on to have 2 children together, Kristen Fleming Martone and Dana Fleming-Kaessler. Swana went on to nursing school to become an RN at Rockland Community College and spent many years in the nursing field with a focus in the nurse case management industry working for Genex Services and Lombardi Associates.
Swana later met her second husband Andrew Kuras and they were married in 2006.They enjoyed many years of travelling together and living life to the fullest.Swana was a wonderful Grandmother to Natalie, Matthew and Gabriella Martone and adored her grandchildren and daughters. Swana was predeceased by her father Michael Piccininni,mother Gudrun Piccininni,sister Anna Piccininni and late ex-husband James E. Fleming. She is survived by her husband Andrew Kuras, daughter Kristen Fleming-Martone, daughter Dana Fleming-Kaessler and son-in-law Karl Kaessler, brother Victor Piccininni, brother Tobias Piccininni and grandchildren Natalie, Matthew and Gabriella Martone.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10AM at St. Augustine’s Church, 118 S. Main Street, New City, New York. Interment to immediately follow at Rockland Cemetery, 201 Kings Highway, Sparkill, New York. A celebration of life will be held at Kristen Martone’s residence at 31 Harvest Road, New City,New York from 2PM-8PM on January 7, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Association in Swana’s name.
