Thomas McCarney

Thomas was born March 14, 1935, in the Inwood section of Manhattan to Joseph "Duke" McCarney and Jennifer (Douglas) McCarney. He graduated from Haaren High School in Manhattan in 1954 and received an associates degree from Rockland Community College in 1976. On April 10, 1966, he married Florence (Luviso) Santomauro in New York, New York. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. In June 1968 he joined the New York City fire department where he bravely served for over 29 years. He was assigned to Ladder Co. 26-2, Ladder Co. 14, and an aide in the 12th Battalion. He was affectionately know by his fellow firefighters as "The Grinch". Thomas spent the years since his retirement doting over his 11 grandchildren, traveling the world with his wife and their great friends, and supporting all of his children in their life's endeavors. Thomas was a member of the Good Shepard Men's Club, Metal Lathers Union Local 46, FDNY Emerald & Holy Name Societies and the Pearl River Elks Club.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Florence, his daughter Louann (Luviso) Perlstein her husband Mitchell, their children Sherri, Nicole and Lisa; daughter Marianne (McCarney) Haesche her husband Michael, their children Aidan, Christian and Aubrey; son Joseph McCarney, his wife Jeanne, their children Morgan, Trevor, and Madison; son Thomas, his wife Tiffanee, their children Eleanor and Hilton; several nieces and nephews and countless family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph, and sisters Margaret and Patricia.

Family and friends may call Thursday 7-9pm and Friday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main St., New City, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 140 Maple Ave. New City, NY at 9:45am on Saturday. Internment to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the UFA - FDNY Widows and Children's fund, www.ufanyc.org.
