Yola was born in New York City on March 29, 1924, to Anthony and Marianne DiTommaso. Growing up as the youngest of six siblings, she was constantly surrounded by love and attention. She later married her beloved late husband, Mario Nicoletti, and together they welcomed four children and created a lifetime of memories.
After spending many years raising a family in the Bronx, Yola moved to Rockland County in 1994.
Yola will be remembered by many as Mom, Grandma, and GG. She fostered a home where everyone gathered and will be fondly remembered for her warm smile, loving arms, and her obsession with shoes.
Yola was a faithful woman who loved God, delighted in all things Italian—from her cooking to Frank Sinatra’s music—and was a loyal New York Yankees fan.
A devoted mother, Yola, is survived by her children Carmel Ann Favale, Joseph Nicoletti (Angela), Michele Verderosa (Frank), and Patricia Schmidt, who will carry forward her legacy. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Schmidt, whom she adored. Her love extended deeply into the next generations—she was a proud grandmother to Carmel, Joseph Jr. (Nicole), Robert (Michelle), Adriana (Steven), Jillian (Michael), Lindsay (Michael), and Carly (Nicholas). Her joy then multiplied with the arrival of her seven great-grandchildren: Luca, Rocco, Shea, Gianni, Raegan, Carina, and Maeve. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on December 22, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A funeral Mass will be held on December 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, followed by burial at St. Raymond Cemetery.
