

Darrell Gordon Watson, age 93, was born in Minneapolis, on September 6, 1926, to Percy F. and Sigurd G. Watson (née Liefur). He died on April 22, 2020, in Brooklyn Park where he had lived for over 63 years. Darrell graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1946 and went to work for ADC Telecommunications as an office boy. He went on to enjoy a career in Sales and Marketing at ADC that spanned over 40 years and allowed him to travel both nationally and internationally. He was a “company man” and he never forgot his colleagues at ADC or the people he met or the places he visited during his career.
Darrell met his first wife, Donna (née Lundberg), at the Minneapolis Youth Center in 1944. They married on August 17, 1947. Darrell and Donna had six children: Janet Knox (Jerald), Darrell Jr. (Judy), Ronald (Dawn), Catherine, Gary (Barbara), and Eric (Kathy). They raised their family in a home in Brooklyn Park where Darrell lived until moving to assisted living in 2018. Donna passed away on April 4, 1984. Catherine passed away on November 1, 1997. Darrell married Betty Jane Elliott, a former ADC colleague, in 1991. They enjoyed traveling in their RV during their retirement. Betty passed away in 2008. Darrell also enjoyed writing stories for his grandchildren, cooking, and researching the family ancestry. He was especially proud of his Icelandic heritage and was a member of the Icelandic American Association of Minnesota.
Darrell was preceded in death by his beloved brothers: Burke of Severna Park, Maryland, Donald (Mary) of Athens, Georgia and Bill of Plymouth, Minnesota. He will be missed by his children along with seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
