I remember Jim as a fun loving guy.  He loved to dance especially at weddings.  
My mother always loved to hear his stories.  She will miss his visits. 
He will be missed.


I always thought of my uncle Jim as a funny and caring man. Although our side of the family traveled near and far uncle Jim was always a welcome face and a source of laughter and confidence. The years and miles spread us apart but our memories always kept us close in our hearts. When I learned uncle Jim was sick and battling cancer. I flew to Minneapolis to visit him. He never lost a step in his heart and sense of humor, and he welcomed me into his and aunt Mary Kay’s home. I never felt like his younger brothers son, he always made all of us feel like family. He did that for everyone he met. He helped me reconnect with a side of the family I had not seen in fifty years. Selflessly giving of himself not having anyone feel sorry for him. He was all about enjoying life and instilling that in everyone around him. Uncle Jim always thought of others, not to say he was a total pushover because he showed us by his example to stand up for what you believe in. His was, and is, a great man to me in my heart as we celebrate his graduation from this life. He has left an indelible mark on all of us, and through us he will live forever as a true Viking! An inspirational and loving person we should all try to emulate! God has blessed everyone who met and knew him with the gift of his presence then and now. Marti 

Dear Fossland Family,

Sending you are Love and Prayers at this time. Your Family has many special memories in my heart and that of Saint Raphael Catholic School as Jim and Mary Kay trusted in us to help their children be the best that they could be.

Sarah and Tony were in my science and Physical Education classes and I have such fond memories of them as they were both so kind and loving to me when I first starting my teaching vocation over 43 years ago. Their memories are still alive in our school today Sarah had such good hand writing and Tony loved sports especially floor hockey in Physical Education classes. 

Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers until Easter Sunday.

The first time I met Jim I was only about 8 or so, and he pulled his dentures out. Scared the crap out of me. I was always intimidated by him till I was older, and then realized he was a big teddy bear. He was our neighbor almost my whole life, and we always knew we could go to their house anytime we needed them. They were the best neighbors and family I could have ever grown up by, besides my own. Love you and miss you!! This is not goodbye, I will see you again.

He was such a father figure to me.  One of my favorite memories was when Sara and I took our first trip on a plan and he had to stay back with our nervous moms.  He always had a way about him that just always made me feel special.  Forever missed, but never forgotten.  Love you Dad Jim.  Hugs and prayers for all the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I feel blessed that I was able to meet Jim and hear some of his amazing stories! He truly did have a special love for every one of you! My heart goes out to all of you and  I pray for comfort during this sad, difficult time.

He is survived by wife of 63 years Mary Kay, children Jeff Fossland (Teresa), Lisa Tombaugh (Scott), Sara Butterfield, Tony Fossland. 13 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Octor and Magdalen (Mandy) Fossland, brother Richard, sister Gloria
