

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs .George J. Castille, Jr., the former Amelia “Bea” Thornton, age 90, at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 9, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Downs officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 7:30am on Thursday until service time at First Baptist Church.
A native of Nahunta, GA, resident of Fernandina Beach, FL for many years and current resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Castille passed away at 10:35 am on Monday, October 6, 2014 at her residence.
Mrs. Castille was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Iberia where she was an Aide and Sunday school teacher. She taught Preschool at First Baptist and the opened Bea’s Daycare.
Bea as she was affectionately known volunteered her time as a Scout Den Mother for Pack 466 and Pack 369 and Heritage Manor South Nursing Home for many years.
She was nominated as Mother of the Year by the Daily Iberian in 1973, enjoyed spending time with her family, was an avid reader and crossword enthusiast.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathyleen A. Romero of New Iberia and Linda A. Mayard and husband Mickey of Delcambre; seven sons, Guy P. Castille of Opelousas, Kenneth J. Castille, Sr. and wife Marilyn of Locust Grove, GA; George J. Castille, III and wife Catherine of Baton Rouge; Gary A. Castille and wife Debbie of Oldsmar, FL; Wayne P. Castille and wife Julie of New Iberia; John E. Castille of New Iberia; Vincent A. Castille and wife Nancy of New Iberia; twenty two grandchildren; forty great grandchildren and one sister, Elvida T. Rowell of St. Mary’s GA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Castille, Jr.; parents, Albert McDonald and Macie Catherine Nettles Thornton; son in law, Kurt A. Romero; daughter in law, Linda N. Castille; two grandsons, Kenneth J. Castille, Jr. and Grant Mayard; two sisters, Ruby Lavon Drury and Martha Case Dechary and two brothers, Albert C. Thornton and Robert L. Thornton.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly C. Bolt, Bryan e. Castille, Joseph B. Castille, Shane A. Castille, Bart D. Romero, Jeremy D. Castille, Jason A. Castille and Robert P. Castille. Honorary pallbearers will be her remaining surviving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
