Barbara was born February 23, 1951 in New Orleans to the late Robert J. O’Brien and Elida Romero O’Brien, and passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020, just three days before her 69th birthday.
Barbara was known for her outgoing personality and love of people and had a smile and kind word for anyone she came across. She enjoyed get-togethers and brightened the room with her smile. Thomas remembers her “quick wit” and that she always had a snappy comeback for you when joking.
Allen recalled that Mardi Gras was one of her favorite times of the year, being that she grew up in New Orleans and had so many fond memories from her childhood and watching parades. When Barbara wanted to unwind, she spent time tending to her garden or doing her crafts. She had a knack for growing many vegetables and plants, but joked about the fact that she could not grow tomatoes at all. She had an entire closet full of craft supplies and would crochet or make children’s shoes with sparkle and lights. Barbara called them “Fru-Fru Shoes”, her own little creation. She also loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit many states in the US. Above all, Barbara’s greatest love was for her family. Her beautiful smile and heart will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved her. Rest well Barbara, for you have earned you reward.
Survivors include her husband and best friend of 47 years, Allen J. Provost Jr.; her son whom she loved dearly, Thomas Provost and his wife Amanda; her granddaughters, Jestia N. Provost and Kara J. Provost; a sister and brother, Donna O’Brien and Steve O’Brien; her nieces and nephews, Nichole, Olivia, Robbie and Justin; her sisters in law, Madeline Wenger, Susan Leleux, June Provost and Janeen Janak; and her brother in law, John Provost.
