The Final Salute – In Memorial Honor to Barry Leblanc

Brothers in Arms, Military men, and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and “as a way” to render courtesy and respect one to another. 

This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Barry LeBlanc our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Barry. To Barry, it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to our great country, State, and community during his service with the Louisiana National Guard. We honor your distinguish military service, and we commend you for your many years of honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American Soldier: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend.  We bid you a farewell. You are dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the entire Louisiana National Guard and US Military Services (Army, USMC, Navy, Air Force and USCG) we extend our sympathies and condolences to Barry’s family and loved ones.

I knew and served with Barry in the Louisiana National Guard.  He was a professional and good Soldier.  A following tribute "It's the Soldier" is fitting for Barry.

not the pastor/preacher, who has given us freedom of religion and worship. 
It’s the Soldier,
not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It’s the Soldier,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It’s the Soldier,
not the demonstration organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble and demonstrate. 
It’s the Soldier,
not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. 
It’s the Soldier,
not the politician, who has given us the right to vote, ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It’s the Soldier, Who salutes the Flag, who serves beneath the Flag and whose coffin is draped by the Flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.

The American Soldier does not fight because he hate who is in front of him; he fights because he love who is behind him.

Met Mr. Barry several years ago through his wife Mrs. Sherry.  What a wonderful soul. I feel blessed to have been able to meet him.  Had the pleasure of sharing Thanksgiving dinner with them both and enjoy some of his fine cooking. He sure could cook a fine meal.  Loved hearing his stories. I will miss him. Prayers for family and friends.

I send my prayers to the family of Barry in their time of lost. I was fortunate to serve with Barry during my military career, he was a man and a soldier who told it like it was, never short from the truth. A mentor to all who served with him, rest in peace my fellow comrade, Job Well Done, I Salute You!!


Barry was one of those rare individuals that made an impact on everyone he had dealings with. He helped develop me in the AGR program in ways that I will never forget. Barry brought out something in everyone, and  that made him one of a kind. I will never forget how he treated me in the very early stages of my service in the National Guard in Jeanerette. I hope he finds peace and I send my condolences to his family.



Through good times and hard times Barry was always there for our family (from around 18 years ago when we met). Amanda (now 27) and Kaitlin (now 25) both grew up knowing and loving Barry as a kind person with an ear for listening to whatever was on their mind. There were times when I would ask Amanda (8) "where have you been?" and her answer was "talking to Mr. Barry". He helped them through some difficult growing pains. It was not only the girls that benefitted from his gracious heart,  Kevin and I also had times that we needed to confide, trust and work through some ups and downs and Barry was always there for us. I knew if I asked he would most probably say "yes" to any reasonable request. I found that he loved to talk about cooking and learning new ways of doing things, any subject of conversation was invited and it was always a pleasure to let the day go as we went from one topic to another. I will always remember Mr. Barry as one of my very good friends. My love goes out to his family.

I am saddened to hear about the loss of your father.  Please know you and your family are in my thoughts.  I always enjoyed being around Mr.  Barry, hanging out at your house or the ball park in Jeanerette.  I sure do miss the old Jeanerette, where we all knew each other and each others family.   Well Mary Lynn, Sue and Barry, along with Jackie Martin, are all probably enjoying a cigarette together in Heaven, laughing about the younger years.   God rest Mr. Barry's soul.

Hearing of Barry's passing was very sad.  
My sincere condolences to the Leblanc family.  I have known him for almost 50 years.  We served together in the LA. National Guard and I, as well as countless others, will remember him as a great soldier, mentor and most of all, a friend.
Barry was an asset to the LAARNG and the U.S. Army.
Thank you for being my  friend and fellow soldier.  Rest in Peace until we meet again.

My condolences on your loss.  Your family will be in our daily prayers.  I worked with Barry for many in the Louisiana Army National Guard.  He was a true friend and we always had a joke for each other when he came to New Orleans on his monthly visit to the LAARNG Headquarters.  He surely will be missed by all who knew him.

Brooke my classmate friend I am so sorry for your lost.  Praying for you I sat in this seat over 20 years ago when my dad died . It was so hard but the memories are what has carried me thus far. And it will do the same for you.

We will miss Barry very much. He was a great neighbor and friend. He was a man who stood for what was right.  Barry did not care, who you were, he called it the way he felt about the situation.  We were blessed here in St. Gabriel, La., for having  Mr. Leblanc (Barry) as a true Neighbor and friend.  Rest in peace.  A job well done.  We will continue to pray for this family. May GOD continue to Bless this family.

I have know Barry since he was a child.  He and my husband worked together with the 256th 2nd battalion for years.  I am so very sorry to hear of his pasing. My Deepest Sympathy to his family.

Occasionally in life you meet that very special person who it is a privilege to call a friend.
Phyllis and I feel so lucky to have had you both as great friends. Barry was a good friend, co-worker and soldier. He was a caring person, one of the best soldiers I ever worked with.  His family was fortunate to have him as a father and grandfather.  You have to remember all the wonderful times you had.  Think just how lucky and privileged you were to be married to him. He will always be missed, never forgotten.
