NEW IBERIA - Claudette Chatelain Clement, age 85, of New Iberia passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Elda Robar Chatelain and Felix Chatelain on September 13, 1938. She was currently living in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Claudette was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through her warmth, kindness, and dedication. A long-time member of the Cruising Cajuns, a Family Motor Coach Association, she and her beloved husband shared a passion for traveling across North America, creating cherished memories along the way. In addition to her adventures on the road, Claudette found joy in sewing, using her skill to create beautiful garments for her family, and was known for her culinary talents, particularly in crafting delicious Cajun and Creole dishes.
Professionally, Claudette dedicated over forty years of her life to nursing. Her compassionate care and unwavering commitment touched countless lives throughout her tenure at Iberia Medical Center, New Iberia Senior High School, and Consolata Nursing Home.
Above all else, Claudette cherished her family. She leaves behind her loving husband of 64 1/2 years, Robert J. Clement, and her daughters Karen Clement Sicard (David), Kathy Clement Richard (Oscar), and Kelly Clement Ferrell (John). She was a devoted grandmother to Kristen Sicard Spruill, Kaitlen Sicard Schexnayder, Tyler Sicard, Derek Richard, Megan Richard Guidry, Kristy Richard Dunston, Marc Ferrell, Rachel Ferrell, and Abby Ferrell. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.
Claudette is preceded in death by her parents, Felix Chatelain and Elda Robar Chatelain, and her sister Althea Chatelain Daret.
A visitation to honor Claudette's life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Evangeline Funeral Home, 314 East St. Peter Street, New Iberia, Louisiana 70560. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1303 Saint Jude Ave., New Iberia, Louisiana 70560. Fr. Garrett Savoie will officiate. Immediately following the services, Claudette will be laid to rest at Beau Pre Memorial Park, 7605 E Old Spanish Trail, Jeanerette, Louisiana 70544.
David Sicard, Tyler Sicard, Oscar Richard, Derek Richard, John Ferrell, and Marc Ferrell will serve as pallbearers, honoring Claudette's life and legacy.
Claudette will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and those whose lives she touched with her kindness and compassion.
