David “Butch” Wayne Bonin, affectionately known by some as Butch, others as Gypsy, and a few simply as Dave, passed away on November 15, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on July 2, 1947, in New Iberia, Louisiana, he remained a lifelong resident of his hometown.
Butch was a simple man who found joy in the simple things. He carried an incredible natural talent in everything he touched. A gifted artist, he could paint and draw with a precision and heart that caught the attention of all who knew him. He could sketch a face with striking perfection. He also loved tinkering with computers and electronics, forever curious and always teaching himself something new. Truly a jack of all trades and master of more than a few, he approached life with ingenuity, independence, and a one-of-a-kind spirit.
He loved deeply, though always in his own way. Butch forged bonds intensely, sometimes overwhelmingly so, but always from a place of loyalty and genuine care. He expressed his love for family and friends through gestures, actions, and a style of affection all his own. His wonderfully wicked sense of humor was unmistakable, unfiltered, and unforgettable. He never felt the need to tone down his brand of wit, and those who knew him wouldn’t have had it any other way. He will be deeply missed by all who were touched by his presence.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Nolia David Bonin; his brother, James Joseph Bonin Jr.; and his sister, Lillian Bonin Workman.
He is survived by his sister, Lois Blanchard, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
