The daughter of Henry and Mercedes Krane, Debbie lived most of her life in New Iberia. During a time when women were just beginning to enter competitive athletics, she was at the forefront as an outstanding volleyball player at both the high school and collegiate levels and a stand-out softball player in area women’s leagues. Following graduation from Northwestern State University, Debbie returned to South Louisiana where she spent more than 30 years teaching reading and physical education to New Iberia children, who she dearly loved.
She is survived by three sisters: Gene Krane (Jim Evans) of Austin, Texas; Melodie Krane (John Lay) also of Austin; and Lori Krane of Houston.
The family wishes to thank Debbie’s attentive caregivers and her special friends Dell Smith, Dionne Dautreil, and Dawn Koch for their abiding love and friendship.
An open house for family and friends will be on Sunday, April 28, at 617 North Lewis from 2–4 p.m. Memorial services will be held privately at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Iberia Boys & Girls Club, 430 Perhsing St., New Iberia, LA 70560 or Shadows-on-the-Teche, 317 E. Main St., New Iberia, LA 70560.
