Elgine Delahoussaye Norris

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be celebrated for Mrs. Donald Ray Norris, the former Elgine Delahoussaye, age 75, at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Tonya Desormeaux (Elgine’s granddaughter) will officiate. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Saturday from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm, and on Sunday from 8:00 am until service time.

Elgine was born December 10, 1938 in Vermilion Parish to the late Opie Delahoussaye and Henrietta Creighton Delahoussaye and was one of three children. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Dauterive Hospital with her family at her side.

Elgine worked for over 19 years as the produce manager with Simoneaud’s Grocery at both the Ashton and Main St. stores and was also a bookkeeper for P & B Furniture many years ago. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. “She met no stranger. Was never afraid to say she loved anyone. She was loved by all. Her family was everything to her.:

Survivors include her children, Todd James Norris and wife Suzzonne of New Iberia, Wardel Douglas Norris and wife Michelle of New Iberia, Donna N. Williams and partner Barrett Broussard of New Iberia, Tammy Lynn Scott and husband Bubba of Port Allen, and Wendy Sue Henry and husband Randy of New Iberia; twenty grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren with three expected; her brother, Elmo Delahoussaye and wife Ethel of New Iberia; sister, Rosa Belle Lancon of New Iberia; and very special nephew, Troy “Chubby” Norris; two brothers-in-law, Edward Norris and wife Olive, and Alex Norris and wife Kathy; her special friend and dance partner, Leroy Lecamus; and a dear friend, Eve Landry

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Norris; parents, Ophie and Henrietta Creighton Delahoussaye; in-laws, Evarist and Nella Norris; sisters-in-law, Betty Touchet, Dot Norris, Lillian Norris, Connie Girouard; brothers-in-law, Louis Lancon and Curtis Norris; uncle, George Creighton; niece, Glenda Guillotte; nephew, Dyna Paul Lancon; and great nephew, Jason Sargeant.
