Gabriel Lee Sigue Sr.

LYDIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Gabriel Lee Sigue, Sr., age 80, at 11:00 am Monday March 17, 2014 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Gregory Chauvin officiating. Interment will be held at St. Nicholas Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Evangeline Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Monday at 7:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

A native of Patoutville and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Sigue passed away at 8:20 pm on Thursday March 13, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Sigue, more affectionately known as “Paw Paw Honey” was a lifelong sugarcane farmer from New Iberia. He was a member of the Cajun Sugar Co-op, member and past Chairman of FHA, vice president of the original Rynella Ball Park, and vice president of Rynella Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid baseball player and coach of the Rynella Blues. He loved the outdoors and spending that time fishing, hunting, camping, and cutting grass, when not in the sugar cane fields. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children Sheila S. Barber and husband Bruce of New Iberia; Gesille S. Simien and husband Michael, Sr. of Iowa; Gregory Sigue of Palmdale, CA; Gabriel L. Sigue, Jr. and wife Lynette of New Iberia and Timothy Sigue and wife Charlotte of Gallatin, TN; grandchildren, Jade Sigue, Skyler Sigue, Timothy Sigue, Jr., Michael Simien, Jr., Torrey Sigue, Corey Sigue, Cody Barber, Lauren Barber, Lindsay LaGarde, Logan LaGarde, Ja’Lyn Sigue, and Phillip Sigue; great grandchildren, Cody Carver, Jade Sigue, Jr., Jaxson Sigue, and Kaydence Noel Sigue; brother, George Sigue, Jr. of San Francisco, CA; and sisters, Lorraine Day of New York and Lelia Pellerin of Lafayette and a special friend in his life for the last few years Barbara Jeaminette.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Fontenot Sigue; grandson, Gregory Gerard Sigue Jr.; parents, George Sr. and Lelia DeRouen Sigue; and brothers, Lloyd Sigue, Sr., Clayton Sigue, and Elton Sigue.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jade Sigue, Skyler Sigue, Timothy Sigue, Jr., Torrey Sigue, Corey Sigue, Michael Simien, Jr., Cody Barber, Logan LaGarde, and Phillip Sigue.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Barber, Michael Simien, Sr., Cody Carver, Jaxson Sigue, Jade Sigue, Jr., and Kaydence Sigue.
