Born on February 13, 1948, in New Iberia, Gloria was one of four children born to the late Eddie Bourque and the late Helen Hulin Bourque. A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Gloria lived a life grounded in love, family, and faith.
Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose joy came from the simple pleasures of life—quiet days spent watching her favorite soap operas and a house full of laughter and love. She was the heart of her family, and her nurturing spirit left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew her. Gloria embodied what it meant to be a mother—selfless, kind, and full of unconditional love.
Although her passing leaves a deep void, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she cherished.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Larry Broussard; her children, Karen Trahan (Shane), Scotty Melancon (Michelle), and Melinda Melancon; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild expected in November; and her sister, Brenda B. Landry.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Helen Bourque; her first husband, Mercy James Melancon; her grandson, Travis James Melancon; and her siblings, Rose Howlett and Albert “AJ” Bourque.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Evangeline Funeral Home, with Pastor Stephanie LeLeux, Chaplain of Traditions Hospice, officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
