

LYDIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Hilda DeVille Tauriac at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Fr. Gregory Chauvin will be the celebrant. Mrs. Tauriac will be laid to rest at St. Nicholas Mausoleum alongside her husband.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 7809 Weeks Island Road, on Wednesday from 9:00 am until time of Mass with the Rosary being recited at 10:00 am.
Mrs. Tauriac was born March 22, 1925 in Lake Charles to the late Telesmar DeVille and Alice Victoran DeVille and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at her residence, with her family at her side. She was 92.
Although Mrs. Tauriac was born in Lake Charles, she has been in Patoutville for most of her life. In her early years, Hilda worked at the Patout Store and was the first black female cashier in Iberia Parish. She also trained the younger workers to properly do their jobs. She was also a homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family. She had a passion for cooking and baking and was known for her delicious homemade banana cakes and lemon meringue pies, and she was a very good seamstress. She leaves behind many fond memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Marie Tauriac and Paul R. Tauriac, Jr. and wife Dianne C. Tauriac all of Jeanerette; her five grandchildren, Kevin Tauriac, Sr. and wife Lashequa of Jeanerette, Janeya Thompson and husband Troy of Metairie, Warren Tauriac and wife Shayla of New Iberia, Kasha Brown and husband Raassan of Jeanerette, and Kesha Brown and husband Preston of Jeanerette; her 14 great grandchildren, Kevin Tauriac, Jr., K’Triana, Katlynn, Kevon, Kierra, Kaidon and Ka’Liyah Tauriac, Ahriana and Armani Polite, Bradley Tauriac, Kamili Brown, Kelby, Paisley and Charli Brown; and her two great grandchildren, Kolbie Tauriac and Khazii Byers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Tauriac, Sr.; an infant daughter and son; her parents; and siblings, Alton, Lillian and Edna DeVille.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin P. Tauriac Sr., Kevin P. Tauriac, Jr., Warren P. Tauriac, Raassan Brown, Preston Brown, and Kevon Tauriac. Honorary pallbearers are Clyde and Bobby Tauriac, Walter Boutte, James Mitchell, Armani Polite, Tony Tauriac, Lee Allan Zeno, Reggie Durel and Michael Robinson.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Tauriac’s name to the World War II Museum in New Orleans.
