A native of New Iberia and resident of Youngsville, James passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018.
James was born in New Iberia on March 23, 1976 to Roy Labit and Roberta Lopez and was an only child. First and foremost James was a loving father, fiancé, son, and friend. His children, Jessie and Jake, were his heart. James kept his circle of friends small. He formed strong bonds with those around him and loved spending time with close friends and family, especially “The Posse” Lance LeBlanc, Trent Menard, Scott Frith and their wives.
James was a kind man who enjoyed living life his own way. He had a soft, tender, sentimental, and loving heart that he hid behind a sharp intelligent wit- peppered with sarcasm, brutal honesty, and humor. His life’s motto was “ I Regret Nothing”.
James had a wide variety of interest including fast cars, traveling, cycling, whiskey, New Orleans, trying new foods, crawfish, and video games. Gone but never forgotten, James will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
James is survived by his two sons, Jessie James Labit and Jake Brian Labit; fiancée, Lela “Cotton Candy” Babineaux; and mother, Roberta Lopez.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Labit; maternal grandparents, Ernest Sr and Roberta Baudoin Lopez; paternal grandparents, Percy and Eula “Whoosky” Duplantis Labit; uncles, John Lopez and Eudes “Monkey” Duplantis; and dog, Bayou Wraith, a Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog.
Honorary pallbearers will be “The Posse”, Lance LeBlanc, Trent Menard, and Scott Frith along with Brian Griffin, Johnathan “Bubba” Fortner, Troy Bernard, and Stuart Johnson.
