

NEW IBERIA – A Memorial Mass will be conducted for Joseph Hardy Stein, age 77, at 10:00 am Friday, December 3, 2010 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Mark Derise will officiate at the services. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. A flag presentation will be conducted by the VFW Post 1982.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Stein passed away at 2:57 am on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Mr. Stein was a Veteran of the US Air Force who served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of Stein’s Superette in New Iberia for several years until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Stein was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual help Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and volunteered as an altar server. He was the recipient of the Diocesan Award in 2010.
Mr. Stein is survived by his wife of 55 years, June Richard Stein; son, Chris Matthew Stein; daughter Stacy S. Bustamante and her husband Jerry all of New Iberia. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Krystina Stein; Genee Monte; Brandon Monte and Brennan Monte; two brothers, Clifford Stein and his wife Pat of Natchez, MS and Kelly Stein and his wife Janice of Abbeville; two sisters, Delores Stein Derise of Lydia and Lavergne Stein Bourque of New Iberia and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Elsie Deslatte Stein and two brothers in laws, Frank Derise and Paul Bourque.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital-501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
