NEW IBERIA – A Celebration of Life Gathering will be conducted for Joy Bergeron Wiltz, age 84, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
A native and resident of Jeanerette, Joy passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at her residence in Jeanerette.
Born on April 23, 1936 to the late Oliver and Philamene Beslin Bergeron, Joy was one of three daughters. Joy worked as an educator with the Iberia Parish School Board for 47 years. She was proud to be a teacher and specialized in kindergarten education. Joy had a kind and gentle soul. She enjoyed watching action and suspense movies with her family and liked to cook. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to all, Joy will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary “Cathy” Simmons; son, Ray G. Simmons (Dawn); sisters, Jean Pepper and Janet Navarro (Eldridge “Mouse”); grandchildren, Ren Simmons (Ciera), Katie Derouen (Errik), Shea Simmons, Rhett Simmons, Carly Simmons, Kyle Simmons, Lindy Simmons, Christopher Simmons, and Kamryn Simmons; and great-grandchildren, Amielle Derouen, Grant Derouen, Bregman Derouen, Holden Simmons, and Carter Simmons
Along with her parents, Joy is preceded in death by her loving son, James “Curt” Simmons.
