Lula "Lou" Viator Chaney

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Lula Viator “Lou” Chaney, age 86, at 3:00 pm Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Msgr. Richard Green will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 4:30 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm.

Mrs. Chaney was a native and longtime resident of New Iberia and passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 06, 2011 at Camelot of Broussard.

“Lou”, as she was known by family and friends, was a 1941 graduate of New Iberia High School. She was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family and friends. Lou was a volunteer at many of the nursing homes in New Iberia, where she brought communion to the residents. She also had a passion for gardening and enjoyed spending her mornings shopping. She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Michael Simon Chaney of Longview, TX, Ernest “Clay” Chaney, Jr. and wife Ronna of Broussard, Glen Alen Chaney and wife Karen of Montgomery, TX, and Robert Paul “Bob” Chaney of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; nine grandchildren, Donette Chevalon Mitchell, Travis Chad Chaney, Jarrod Clark Derouen, Trevor Anthony Chaney, Justin Alan Chaney, Troy Alfred Chaney, Sarah Renee Chaney, Melissa Dawn Chaney, and Josiah Chaney; ten great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, James “Jimmy” Derouen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Chaney; her parents, Simon Viator and Anite Reaux Viator; her daughter, Linda Mae Chaney Derouen; a grandson, Trent Anthony Chaney; and her brothers, Roy “Shorty” Viator and Allen J. Viator.

Pallbearers will be Jarred and Jimmy Derouen, Trevor, Travis, Troy and Justin Chaney, and Scotty and Tyler Mitchell.
