Born and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, Lynette graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 1957. She went on to study nursing at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette—a calling that became her lifelong passion. Known affectionately in her neighborhood as “Mrs. Phillips,” she was the go-to caregiver for everything from skinned knees to minor burns. Her generous heart and medical knowledge touched countless lives.
Lynette’s vibrant personality made her the heart of every gathering. She was fun-loving, quick to laugh, and always ready with a joke or a story. She cherished time spent with family and friends, especially during shopping trips, baking sessions, or lively visits around the kitchen table.
She is survived by her two children, E.O. "Buck" Phillips and Deborah Phillips; her grandchildren, Anthony Meyers (Heidi) and Jaclyn Meyers; and her great-grandchildren, Ila Kathryn Meyers and Walker Reid Meyers. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Verna Taylor Mathis (Donald) and Joselle Taylor Viator (Nathan); her son-in-law, Raymond Meyers; and her beloved nieces and nephews: Dianne Millet Savoy, Susanne Millet Hall, Donald “Bubba” Mathis, D’Ette Mathis Waldrop, Ryan Thalji, and Amy Thalji.
Lynette was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Josie Garbo Taylor; her husband, E.O. “Jack” Phillips, Jr.; her sister and brother-in-law, Diane Taylor Millet and Gordon; and her brother-in-law, Mike Thalji.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Maison Teche Nursing Home, Dr. Steven Saccaro and the staff at Ochsner Lafayette Oncology, Dr. Jose Mata and Staff, and St. Joseph Hospice. Your kindness and care meant the world to Lynette and her loved ones.
