Margaret Girouard Livingston

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Margaret Girouard Livingston, age 99, at 3:00 pm Friday, August 2, 2013 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. Visiting will continue on Friday from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm.

Mrs. Livingston was born December 22, 1913 to the late Andre Pierre Girouard and Zoe Reaux Girouard and was one of 14 children. Margaret was a homemaker but also worked outside the home in various roles. At the age of 91, she retired with 20 years of service as a Supervisor of the Senior Citizens Building with the City of New Iberia City Park. At her retirement celebration, Margaret was given a key to the city and was honored with a proclamation of Margaret Livingston Day by the Mayor.

Margaret was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed the time she spent with the seniors, whether it was playing games, or just talking. But she enjoyed the time spent with family the most. She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Gerald D. Livingston and wife Rebecca of Quito, Equador, Mary Livingston Thibodeaux and husband Dr. Verne Thibodeaux, and Ward W. Livingston, Jr. all of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, Tanya Tovilla, Stacy Rushton, Marta Lane, Christina Livingston, Verne L. Thibodeaux, III, Andre Pierre Thibodeaux, and Simone T. Guillot; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Nugent of Houma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward W. Livingston; her parents and brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.
