Marie Angelina Musemeche, a devoted servant of Christ and beloved member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by all her loving caregivers and her very special cousin, Mary Watson Wyble. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service. A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Marie lived her life with quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and a generous heart.
Born on May 6, 1933, to the late Anthony Paul Musemeche and Philomena Jeffery Musemeche.
A proud graduate of New Iberia Senior High School in 1951, Marie went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern Louisiana University. Her deep love for children and learning led her to a fulfilling 30-year career with the Iberia Parish School Board. She began her teaching journey at Center Street Elementary and later became a cherished 4th grade teacher at North Lewis Elementary, where she touched countless young lives with her kindness, patience, and dedication.
Marie was not only a passionate educator but also an active community member. She was a member of the Iberia Retired Teachers Association and the New Iberia Garden Club, where she shared her love for nature and especially her fondness for amaryllis flowers in all their varieties.
A faithful and active parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Marie found great joy and purpose in serving as a Eucharistic minister, sharing the love of Christ through her actions and presence. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, evident in every aspect of her service and relationships.
In her retirement, Marie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially over meals shared at her favorite local restaurants. Her warm spirit, gentle humor, and sincere compassion made her a treasured presence in the lives of all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving cousins, Mary Watson Wyble, Twan Ray, Angelina Jeffery Rooney, her many friends of St. Peters church community, her longtime sitter who was like a daughter, Phyllis Maturin and her caretakers, Jade Salazar, Sharon Savoy and Barbara Lafleur.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters, Rita D. Musemeche and Theresa Ann Musemeche; two brothers, Paul Wilson Musemeche and Thomas Joseph Musemeche and two cousins, Lucille Jeffery and Woody Watson, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Marie’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The very Rev. William C. Blanda, VF will be the celebrant. Marie will be laid to rest with her family at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic church beginning at 8:00 am until time of service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are J. Edward Fremin, Hugh J. Billeaud, III, Woody Watson, III, Jacques Cousin, Richard Spears and Zachary Marks.
