Mary Dell Louviere, age 82, of New Iberia, Louisiana, passed away on April 16, 2026. She was born on February 12, 1944, in New Iberia, Louisiana.
Mary Dell is survived by her sons, Timothy Louviere Jr. (Jeanne) and Steven Paul Louviere (Leah); her sister, Jackie “Nanny Boo” Poirrier (Charles “Charlo”); her grandchildren, Dylan Louviere, Stevee Louviere, Trevor Louviere, Graci Louviere, Jamie Ransonet, and Charlotte Romero; her great-grandchildren, Basin Louviere, Easton Louviere, Emma Louviere, Tyson Maturin, and Taelynn Maturin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Louviere Sr.; her father, Newton Melancon; her mother, Laurence Melancon; her sister, Mabel “Mimi” Migues; her brothers, Patrick Melancon and Denis “Zoro” Melancon; and her sister, Rita Langlinais.
Mary Dell was a proud graduate of Mount Carmel and a member of the Class of 1963. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and prayed the rosary every day. She was also known for her strong spirit and sense of humor.
She worked for Walmart for 38 years, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. Outside of work, Mary Dell enjoyed going to the casino and playing the penny machines. She was an exceptional cook, remembered especially for her chicken stew and her “granny’s greasy goofer gravy,” meals that brought her family together time and again.
Her family was the center of her life. She loved them deeply and made sure they knew it, spoiling her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren even more. Mary Dell’s home was filled with love, laughter, and the kind of comfort only she could provide.
Visitation will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on April 22, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a Rosary at 6:00 PM, and will continue April 23, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church on April 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Broussard Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steven Paul Louviere, Pat Klopfer, Logan Louviere, Dylan Louviere, Trevor Louviere, Basin Louviere, and Easton Louviere. Honorary pallbearers are Taelynn Maturin, Tyson Maturin, Graci Louviere, and Emma Louviere.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Charlotte and Trevor for the loving care they provided for Mary Dell.; during her illness The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Foundations Hospice ; especially to Tyler “Jesus,” Kayli, Rachel, Sarah, Stephanie Leleux, and Mary for the extraordinary compassion, comfort, and care they provided to Mary Dell and her family. Caring for her through this difficult time would not have been possible without their support. They carried our family through some of the hardest days with kindness, dignity, and love, always treating Mary Dell with tenderness and respect. Their staff were truly God-sent, and their presence brought peace and strength when it was needed most. We will always be grateful for the care they gave and the burden they helped us bear.
