NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for Michael Timothy Sumrall, age 69, at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Reverend Armand Prentiss will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum where he will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. The family is requesting that everyone in attendance where a face covering and use social distancing.
Michael was born on January 12, 1952 to the late Thomas Ervin Sumrall, Jr. and Patricia Evelyn Nance Sumrall in New Iberia. He passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville, LA.
Michael was a special needs resident of Visions Group Home in Leesville, La. and will be missed by fellow residents and staff. Michael was a huge Saints fan and enjoyed watching TV, especially Super Heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them for holidays. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart and affectionately called him “Paw Mike”.
He is survived by his sisters, Kathy Legnon and Jenny Romero and husband Joe all of New Iberia; and his brothers, Steve Sumrall and wife Scarlett of New Iberia and Gerald Sumrall and wife Channon of Carlsbad, NM and Rusty Sumrall and wife Kara of Avondale, La. and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Ervin Sumrall, Jr. and Patricia Evelyn Nance Sumrall; one sister, Linda Sumrall; brother-in-law, Frank Legnon; maternal grandparents, Harlan and Grace Evelyn Crabtree Nance and paternal grandparents, Thomas and Inez Alleman Sumrall, Sr.
Pallbearers will be members of the family: Gerald Sumrall, Steve Sumrall, Rusty Sumrall, Thomas Sumrall, Brady Sumrall and David Legnon.
