Richard Thibodeaux, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the age of 86. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and kindness.
Born on April 3, 1939, in New Iberia to the late Grady and Louise Deslatte Thibodeaux, Sr.
Known for his easygoing personality, Richard treasured every moment spent with his family. Alongside his devoted wife, he enjoyed camping adventures and quiet moments outdoors, embracing his love for fishing, hunting, and the natural world.
An avid outdoorsman, Richard found his greatest joy in tending to his vegetable garden, nurturing it with the same care and patience he gave to his family. He was immensely proud of his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, delighting in cooking and barbecuing for them whenever he could.
Richard’s craftsmanship was evident in his excellent woodworking skills, and he was often found tinkering and fixing things around the house with quiet determination and skill.
A faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Richard was also a dedicated Mason of the Aurora Lodge #193 in New Iberia and a proud Shriner, contributing to his community with humility and generosity.
Richard was the proud owner of Thibodeaux's Auto Repair for 43 years, a testament to his dedication and hard work. Additionally, he served in the mechanic shop at the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office for many years, where his expertise and friendly demeanor were deeply appreciated.
Richard’s warmth, talents, and commitment to family and community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 62 years, Lillian Tabor Thibodeaux; one son, Rod Thibodeaux and wife Stacy; four grandchildren, Richard Suire and wife Marie; Riley Thibodeaux, Alex Thibodeaux and Ben Thibodeaux; three great grandchildren, Austin Suire, Shelby Suire and Taysom Suire; and his siblings, Grady Morris Thibodeaux, Jr., Ronald Segura and wife Stephanie; Robert Wilson and wife Maggie; Linda Wilson; Verdis Whitesel and husband Bob; Levy Wilson and wife Lori; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he preceded in death by one son, Richard Thibodeaux, Jr.: one brother, Michael Thibodeaux and two sisters, Janice Moreaux and Judy Badeaux.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with Fr. Garrett Savoie officiating. Richard will be laid to rest privately at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to Evangeline Funeral Home for a visitation on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. A Masonic Service will take place at 10:00 am and the Men’s Rosary Group will pray the Rosary at 10:30 am.
