Robert Arthur Johnson, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and proud patriarch of our family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Iberia Medical Center. He was 75.
Born in Englewood, New Jersey, Robert was the son of the late Paul Johnson and the late Cecilia Keller Johnson. His father’s work as an engineer meant frequent moves throughout the country, but Robert spent most of his early years in Houston before settling in Baton Rouge, where he graduated from Broadmoor High School. Shortly after, he began his professional journey with Dixie Electric and later embarked on a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years with ExxonMobil.
Robert met the love of his life, Glenda Migues, at a local diner—though he missed their first date, he made it count the second time. From that day forward, they shared a bond built on love, laughter, and shared purpose. They were married on October 16, 1971, and together raised two children, Robin and Kelly, while building a beautiful life filled with treasured memories.
Outside of his career, Robert was a man of many talents and interests. He found joy on the golf courses of Baton Rouge, and loved to unwind with his favorite game shows. But it was in the kitchen where he truly shined—known for his award-winning bread pudding, cheesecakes, yule logs, and unforgettable Cajun dishes, Robert brought his family together with every lovingly prepared meal. His cooking was more than food—it was how he expressed his love.
More than anything, Robert’s greatest joy was his family. To his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "PawPaw," he was a source of humor, fun, and unwavering love. His legacy lives on in the laughter, recipes, and stories that will be passed down for generations to come.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 54 years, Glenda Migues Johnson; his children, Robin Johnson and Kelly Johnson (Stephanie); grandchildren, Savannah McGhee, Hunter McGhee, Rhianna Clark, and Rose Clark; great-grandchild, Meira McGhee; and his brother, Michael Johnson (June).
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Cecilia Johnson; his sister, Karen Johnson; and his brother, Paul Johnson.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
Relatives and friends are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting Robert’s memorial at www.evangelinenewiberia.com.
