Shirley Buteaux Vedrines

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Richard “Bubba” Vedrines, the former Shirley Buteaux, age 74, at 2:00 pm Tuesday February 6, 2018 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will follow at the church mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Tuesday until service time.

A native of Olivier and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Vedrines passed away at 8:37 pm on Thursday February 1, 2018 at Iberia Medical Center.

Shirley was a kind and caring woman who dedicated her life to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Shirley enjoyed family gatherings and would find any reason to get the family together. She worked many years as a cashier at Todd’s Carwash and was a familiar and friendly face to all of New Iberia. Shirley had a love for Halloween, cooking, and fishing. She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Ted Vedrines and wife Emma; daughters, Jane Sargent McLean and husband Eddie and Laura Vedrines Begnaud and husband Joseph; step-sons, Christopher Vedrines and wife Cheryl and Gregory Vedrines and wife Bonnie; grandchildren, Katherine Verret, Michael Luzier, Allison Bonin, Hannah Vedrines, Adam McLean, Adley Vedrines, Isabelle Vedrines, Cole Vedrines, Tiffani Vedrines, Wyatt Vedrines, and Alice Begneaud; great grandchildren, Valerie Verret, Ethan Verret, Makayla Luzier, and Makynli Luzier; Godchildren, Todd LeMaire and Michelle B. Harris; and first husband, John Sargent.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Richard “Bubba” Vedrines; parents, Felix and Theresa Clements Buteaux; brothers, Gerald “Nookie” Buteaux and Louis “Pishy” Buteaux; and sisters, Irene LeMaire and Mary Ann “Mazie” Buteaux.

Pallbearers will be Cole Vedrines, Wyatt Vedrines, Michael Luzier, Todd LeMaire, Garland LeMaire, Adam McLean, Tracy Comeaux, and Jeremy Freyou

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Iberia Medical Center, Dr. Sagrera who is a longtime family friend, Dr. G. Sigue, Dr. S. Buttaci, , Dr. Bose Cheeran, the staff of CIS, the staff of Heart of Hospice, and the staff of DCI.
