Troy was born on December 22, 1986, in New Iberia to Betty Haile Bernard and Dr. Douglas A. Bernard. He was raised in New Iberia and graduated from New Iberia Senior High School, Class of 2005. Following graduation, Troy served in the United States Marine Corps.
A talented machinist, Troy worked for many years at Port Machine in New Iberia. Outside of work, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and playing the piano. He was a member of First Methodist Church of New Iberia and a member of the church choir.
Above all, Troy treasured the time he spent with his son, Liam, who was his constant companion and greatest joy. Together, they shared many special moments and lasting memories.
Troy's memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit remains in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his beloved son, Liam Troy Bernard; his parents, Betty Haile Bernard and Dr. Douglas Allen Bernard (Becky); his siblings, Megan Elizabeth Bernard Berry (Robert), Tollie John Bernard (Ann), and McKenzie Allen Bernard; his stepsisters, Brandy Lawless (Joe) and Tabittha Larson; and his nieces and nephews, Reece Bernard, Cindy Bernard, William Bernard, Kate Bernard, Frannie Bernard, Tolbert Bernard, and William Bernard. He is also remembered by a large extended family and many dear friends.
Troy was preceded in death by his brother, Nicholas Haile Bernard; his grandparents, Hugh Allen Bernard and Laverne Fourchee Bernard, Edward Lewis Haile and Eloise Larkin Haile, and Mary Catherine Doumit Jenkins; and his aunt, Cathy Bernard Nelson.
A service celebrating Troy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at First Methodist Church in New Iberia, with Rev. Xavier Torres officiating. Musical selections will be provided by the First Methodist Church Choir. Visitation will take place at the church prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Troy will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in the Haile family plot at Forest Park East Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
Pallbearers will include members of Troy’s family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions in Troy's name be made to First Methodist Church, 119 Jefferson Street, New Iberia, LA 70560.
