AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Verna Simon Romero

8 août 194030 janvier 2021

Verna Simon Romero, a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away Saturday January 30, 2021 at her residence at the age of 80.

Verna was born August 8, 1940 in the rural community of Esther Louisiana to the late Ray Simon and Octavia Harrington Simon and was the oldest daughter of nine children born to that union. Verna could best be described as dedicated and hardworking, but "canaille". No matter the job or occasion, she always brought a joke and laugh to the room. One of favorite pastimes was crocheting, but she was in her greatest joy when attending services at the Pentacostals of Lydia church. Although her health would not let her dance in the spirit, it was in her heart. Her smile and kindness touched all that she met and she will be missed dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory is her son, Marvin Romero Bourque; four grandchildren, Megan Bourque, Shawntell Girard, Britny Bourque and Trey Renard; six grandchildren, Baylee Girard, Caden Girard, Zaiden Girard, Makinlee Girard, Brylee Bourque and Alerah Renard; her sisters and brothers, Alton Simon, Ruby Alleman, Lester Simon, Rita Duhon, Margaret Louviere, Lorna Viator, Beulah Charpentier, Karen Simon; her entire family at the Pentacostals of Lydia church; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Rickey Romero; her daughter, Shawn R. Menard; and her granddaughter, Kortni Duhon.

Funeral services celebrating Verna's life will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Pentacostals of Lydia church, 7219 Weeks Island Road in Lydia. Rev. Ronnie Perkins will officiate. Following the services, Verna will be laid to rest with her husband at Holy Family Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be observed at the church on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and will continue on Thursday from 8:00 am until 9:45 am.

Serving as pallbearers are Marvin Romero Bourque, Sherrie Boudreaux, Karl Charpentier and Jason Viator.

Memorial contributions may be made in Verna's name to her beloved church family at The Pentacostals of Lydia, 7219 Weeks Island, LA 70560.

I am so blessed and honored to be able to call such a beautiful soul my Godmother. I know that she is at peace and is surrounded with love. Her heart broken for over 5 long years after losing Parin Bod is now mended and whole. I can almost hear her boisterous laugh in his presence. He made her so incredibly happy. They both had a way of lifting and calming spirits. I thank them both for teaching me how to pray and making my faith stronger, especially at times when I feel so weak I fear that I could crumble. I thank them both for loving me unconditionally and I pray they know the feeling is more than mutual. Rest In Peace my sweet Nanny.
