Whitney “Skipper” Schaubert Jr., 69, a resident of New Iberia, Louisiana, passed away on April 1, 2026. Born on March 7, 1957, Whitney lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and deep love for his family.
Whitney was known as a hardworking man who cared deeply for his family. He began working at a young age in a grocery store, and later built a career offshore as a welder and rigger. Over time, he found what he truly enjoyed in life—working with racehorses. He spent many years owning, raising, training, and racing horses, with his favorite being Pat Sat Fat. He dabbled in carpentry and brick laying. He also enjoyed fighting roosters.
Above all, Whitney was a family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Castille Schaubert; his daughter-in-law, Linda Trahan Schaubert; his mother-in-law, Carmen Castille; and his siblings, Pamela, Terry, Bonnie, Charlene, Cindy, Pattie, Crystal, and Jody.
Whitney was preceded in death by his sons, Nicholas Schaubert and Whitney Schaubert II; his brother, Randy Schaubert; his parents, Whitney and Earline Schaubert; his brother, Todd Jason Schaubert; and his father-in-law, Charles Castille.
Whitney will be remembered as a hardworking man with a generous spirit, a love for life. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday April 14, 2026 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Cemetery.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
