

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. William “Bill” Benoit, at 1:00 pm Monday April 4, 2016 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church with Fr. Kendal Faulk officiating. Deacon James Davis and Deacon Theo Landry will con celebrate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 am until 9:00 pm on Sunday with a Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday until service time.
A native and resident of Avery Island, Mr. Benoit passed away at 5:35 pm on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at his residence.
William “Bill” Benoit, age 82, was born on March 1, 1934 to Louise Hebert and Neville Benoit of Baldwin.
William was a U S Navy veteran. He worked for Sia Trucking Co. and International Salt Co. for 32 years
Assistant Scout Master of troop 15 for many years, he also served in the Knights of Columbus Post 7050 and the American Legion Post 335. On February 13, 2010, he was named into the Softball Hall of Fame.
William’s favorite hobbies were baseball, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. His famous quote when asked how he was doing was “I’m trying to make a living”. Bill will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alura Delcambre Benoit; sons, Roddy Benoit and wife Geena and Kenny Benoit; daughters, Patricia Comeaux and husband Larry, Wendy Suire and husband Shane, and Penny Labit and husband Dannie; grandchildren, April Campbell and husband Mike, Ryan Comeaux and wife Holly, Mallory Anslum and husband Todd, Brodie Comeaux and wife Rebecca, and Blair Benoit; great grandchildren, Gage Boutte, Cole Comeaux, Collin Comeaux, Reese Anslum, and Omi Campbell due in August; brother, Leroy Benoit of Jeanerette; sisters, Teresa Bourliea of Franklin and Drucella Bailey of Thibodeaux; and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his great grandson, Micah Campbell; parents, Neville and Louise Hebert Benoit; brothers, Dave Sidgy, and Louis Benoit; sisters, Louisa Hebert and an infant sister; and mother-in-law, Georgia Delcambre.
Pallbearers will be Roddy Benoit, Kenny Benoit, Larry Comeaux, Shane Suire, Dannie Labit, Brodie Comeaux, Mike Campbell, and Todd Anslum.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and Godchild, Scott Delcambre.
William’s family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana and their staff for the care that he was given and also a special sister-in-law, Gail Castille, who was always there for them; and also Eucharistic Minister Dan Duncan for his services.
