

She was predeceased by her parents, Felisa Gonzales Cornelius and Louis Cornelius and James F. Lucas.
She is survived by her husband Robert "Bob" Chatman, his daughters Brenda Carter, Shawna Chatman, and Robin Campbell (Jessie). Her brother, James F. Lucas, Jr., her God-son Robert L. Howard II, a number of family members, loving cousins, and friends. Her outgoing personality, lent her to form bonds with various neighbors in her many residences, including in New London, Groton, and California.
She worked in the office setting for a number of years, on both the East and West coasts, which undoubtedly contributed to her organized nature. Her hobbies included cooking, eating delicious and flavorful food- she loved her Filipino favorites like Sotanghon, and her rice and beans. She loved her snacks, especially indulging in toffee and ice cream. She enjoyed sewing, music, and watching UConn basketball. She was a dog lover. In her youth, she was a dancer and studied ballet.
She will be fondly remembered for her keen fashion sense, love of accessories and bling, her sharp wit, and sassy character. She truly was a spitfire.
She was a devout follower of the Lord and was not afraid to let anyone know she was a person of Faith. She cared for others and had a giving nature.
She will surely be missed as she left an indelible mark on all those who knew her.
The family would like to thank Fairview Nursing Home in Groton, for the level of care received and all of the genuine relationships with staff she forged while living there.
A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, February 5th from 11am-noon, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London with a service to follow at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Starr Burial Ground, Groton.
