As a first generation American, Les was born in 1930 and was the second youngest child of Nicolas Lewis and Hertha Trumpka of Waterford.
He is remembered as a loving and wise father, a faithful husband, a patriot, a lover of books, history, gardening, coffee, and ice cream.
He graduated from Chapman Technical in New London in 1947 and honorably served in the U.S. First Army during the Korean War. A machinist by trade, he worked for Whiting Machine Co, and AMF Corp., during the 1960s and 70s, and later worked in the Security Department at General Dynamics in Groton
He is survived by Gilda Lewis, wife of 55 years; Glenn Lewis, son, Melissa, daughter-in-law, and Spencer, grandson of Wethersfield; Marcy Watrous of Mystic, niece; siblings: Mildred Cooper of Florida, Alfred Lewis of New London, David Lewis & sister-in law Beverly of Niantic; and his faithful dog Sniffer.
Fulton Theroux Funeral Service of New London is assisting his family with a grave site committal service Friday, November 28th at 1 p.m. at Jordan Cemetery in Waterford.
