Louis Stanley Leitkowski Jr.

Louis S. Leitkowski, 85, died Thursday, November 27th, at his home in Port St. Lucie, FL. He’s called Florida home since 1987 where he left Montville, CT. Louis was born in New London, CT, son to the late Louis and Josephine Leitkowski.

He graduated Stratford High School in CT. He was a Korean War veteran through his honorable service in the U.S. Army from 51’-53’ where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.

His Career began July 19th, 1954 with his appointment to the Connecticut State Police Academy. Through his 31 years of Service in the Connecticut State Police, “Capt. Lou” as he was known by friends, achieved the rank of Captain before he retired in 1985. Among the titles he held, as Captain, he was Commanding Officer Special Investigations Section CAKA HQ, Criminal Investigations Bureau and Deputy Commanding Officer of Eastern District. During his service, he received the Departments award for Bravery for his participation in a shootout and capture of armed militants who attacked and were out to murder non-violent members of their community in Voluntown, CT.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine “Connie” Leitkowski; daughters Linda Kuja, Sherry Greene; son Garhard Leitkowski; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his brother Paul Leitkowski.

He was a proud member of: the V.F.W., in Jensen Beach, FL; American Legion, Port St. Lucie, FL; Korean War Veterans Association, Treasure Coast Ch. 106; CT State Police Academy Alumni Assoc.; American State Troopers; Associate Member of the CT State Police Union; Associate Member of FL Sherriff’s Assoc.; CT State Employees Association Ret #427 FL: Sons of Norway, Gulfstream Lodge; Elks Lodge, Port St. Lucie, FL.

Visitation will be held 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, December 5, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Service, 181 Ocean Ave, New London, CT, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6. Interment will follow at Jordon Cemetery in Waterford, CT.
