We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Matthew Joshua Simon, 35, who left us on February 14, 2025 at Yale New Haven hospital after a sudden and unexpected illness. He was born on May 8, 1989, at L&M Hospital in New London, Connecticut to his loving parents Edward and Millie Simon.
Matthew leaves behind his fiancé, Laura Shaw and her two children, Joseph and Jeremiah Surdo. He was a devoted family man who always put his family first.
Matthew attended Waterford High School, graduating in 2007. He was a hardworking employee at Seconn Fabrication, where he built a successful career. Outside of work, he enjoyed watching baseball, cheering for the Red Sox. He also loved spending time at the beach with his loved ones. He was hoping to visit his favorite vacation spot in New Hampshire, this summer, with his growing family.
In addition to his parents and fiancé, he is survived by his siblings Jonathan Simon and his wife Vanessa, Andrew Simon, and Kimberly Simon and her husband Jason, all of Quaker Hill. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Alyssa, Alexis, Jacob, Nathan, Stacie, and Aubrey. Matthew was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Betty (Bly) and Fred Forshaw, his paternal grandparents Rose and Maxwell Simon, and his Uncle Glenn Forshaw. Matthew leaves behind so many other loving friends and family members.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at noon in Quaker Hill Baptist Church, 144 Old Norwich Rd., Quaker Hill. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich. Reception will be immediately after burial at Quaker Hill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, Matthew would be honored by donations to Hartford Children’s hospital.
Matthew's unexpected illness took him from us far too soon, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
