Paul Gregory Izzo, age 82, of Groton, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Paul was born on May 9, 1943, in New London, to Mario and Angela Izzo, the second son of four boys. He spent the majority of his life in Groton, where he built both his career and his family life. Paul dedicated many years of service at Electric Boat, working in a variety of positions before retiring. In addition, he owned and operated a commercial lobstering business, combining his lifelong love of the ocean with hard work and independence. In 2011, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving to Punta Gorda, Florida, where he made many close friends and enjoyed the next chapter of his life. Very recently, Paul returned to Groton to be closer to his family. Devoted to those he loved, Paul always put his family first, caring deeply for others and quietly doing whatever was needed. Nearly as strong as his love for family was his passion for boating and fishing. He spent countless hours exploring the Thames River and Long Island Sound, fishing his favorite spots, and sharing stories of his adventures. He loved teaching others about the ocean and the tides, and was always eager to pass along his knowledge. Paul was down-to-earth, pragmatic, and genuine–living life simply and always staying true to himself. He is survived by his brother Carl Izzo and sister-in-law Joanne Izzo of Niantic; his brother John Izzo of Groton; his niece Kim (Izzo) Wood and her husband Tim; his niece Lori Dorchak of Puerto Octay, Chile; his niece Lynn Wilson of Weeki Wachee, FL; his nephew John Izzo of Thompson’s Station, Tennessee; and his great-nieces Jessica and Amanda Wood of East Lyme. Paul also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Mario and Angela Izzo, and his brother Mario Izzo. Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and burial will be private.
