Lynn & Kathy, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom.  She was a beautiful person.  I really enjoyed all the years of sevice I was able to give her at the bank.  We had such a great visit in Januray, I was totally shocked when you called and gave me the news. Lynn that was a beautiful tribute you wrote it brought tears to my eyes. 'Closing the books on a very great lady'
My mother was a book keeper. She loved numbers and games and competition. She was a hero in many lives as she fought for social justice and equality in her own way. She understood what being an underdog was.  She was born to Italian immigrants who did not really speak English and did not read or write.  She managed to take care of five children, her parents, her mother-in-law, and shuffle them off to all points and beyond.  She truly was the taxicab to all of us and our friends.  My mother was high strung, drama followed her.  She was born in 1934 in a snowstorm in New Orleans with a "veil" which was supposed to mean she was special and could "see" things - my grandmother always said. She was a hero to a lot of people.  My cousin LLoyd always talks about my mom and what she was able to do. She gave him his first garden to tend.  She was a hero to my Aunt Rose who was always so proud of her and her abilities. Jimmy always made mom feel special and mom always looked forward to Jackie's birthday cards.  My sister Kathy can tell you story after story about how mom Gene and her used to go fishing and crawfishing and never come home.  My mom would always have one rule for all kids in the neighborhood; if something went wrong , if somebody spilled the beans that would be the end of their joy rides during the summer months. 
I often talk about how my mom was the one who put every kid in the neighborhood into the old Rambler station wagon to go to the drive-in to see Star Wars on $3 car load night.  Neighborhood kids still talk about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
MY mom had some heroes in her life and I feel as my mother's representative I would like to thank those heroes in her life: like Alice , Pat , and Patricia , Joe Adorno and Al from the treasure chest.  Her friend Johnny Rubio who took care of our family when my dad had his first massive heart attack and was out of work for 6 months.  Her friend Ruth Schindler who gave us our dramatic inspiration. There was Cecil at City Park, Stanley the crab net maker at the lakefront, our friend Nicole who my mom has now known for nearly 20 years....they are made from the same bolt of cloth. They could read each other and I always felt like they were saying things around me that I just didn't get.
Darlene, Joette, Dot, and Danny from the Peppermill Restaurant, always made her laugh.................what a group, they were so supportive when my father passed away;  she never felt alone in that loss. She loved when Bob and Karleen came to visit; She felt at ease and comfortable. She loved to challenge Bob.  She always loved hearing Todd's chuckle when she would call looking for me.  She always appreciated Andy and Terrie for looking out for her when dad died. And when Matthew came like a little saint to take her trees away for her and loved when he and Lindsey came crawfishing with us. 
And she was so thankful for Frank who ever since he was a student pharmacist loved my mother and always took time out to have discussions about everything especially when my dad was really ill. 
Or how about Mr. Malley who my mom adored; she felt close to him , they spoke the same language ....fishing.  And then there were those that helped her with her questions about financial stuff!!! They never tired of my mom asking those questions over and over again. Terri and Darlene for income tax questions , Warren with legal questions, and Tracy from the bank finally getting her to do "direct deposit".   And then she loved those people who loved us. like Tim , Peter and Louanne, Susan, Charlie, and our darling Tom, who always made my mom laugh even when she did not want to.  And of course her old friends Marie Carmel and Ron Hill.   And one of the greatest heroes of her life Gavin Plaisance .................The sun rose and set with him................he could do no harm. He pulled my mother out of despair so many times in her life ......................WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO THANK HIM FOR WHAT HE DID FOR HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time's running short so I have to say that my sister Kathy who truly was my mom's best friend , her fishing buddy, and all around partner in crime - will be the one who feels the loss the most!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She must know that she gave my mom things that I did not even know were important to her; like the camp , a small boat , a scooter for her to get around with and of course the all important Christmas tree that I would have skipped entirely, because I didn't realize my mother had wanted one so very badly . Kathy showed up with it on Christmas Day almost entirely decorated. The joy that she felt was boundless at that small gesture: That she was important and her Christmas tree was too. So I thank my sister for being there for both of us, especially in the past couple of weeks .
So to close the 'books' my mother ultimately gave her life to save mine and there is no better definition of a true hero than to lay down your life for someone else!!!!!!

Dr. Robertson, words do not seem adequate to express my sympathy at the sudden death of your Mother.  Please be assured of my prayers for you and your entire family.

She will be greatly missed, but i know there is a very special place in heaven for her, reunited with her husband, and their very own fishing pier.
